History
Daniel Boone
Our chapter is named for Daniel Boone, an American pioneer, explorer, and frontiersman whose frontier exploits made him one of the first folk heroes of the United States. Boone was a militia officer during the Revolutionary War, which in Kentucky was fought primarily between the American settlers and the British-aided Native Americans. Following the war, Boone worked as a surveyor and merchant.
Boone, North Carolina
Boone, home of Appalachian State University, is found in northwestern North Carolina, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is the county seat of present day Watauga County, which was formed on January 27, 1849, from Ashe, Wilkes, Caldwell, and Yancey Counties. On the February 23, 1911, Avery County was formed from parts of Watauga, Caldwell, and Mitchell Counties, thus reducing the size of these counties.
Meetings
Our chapter meets once a month from March through December. A typical meeting includes social time, a guest speaker, and a business meeting. We also have special meetings throughout the year. We encourage anyone interested in joining DAR to attend one of our meetings to better understand the DAR organization and the work that we do in our community.
